PIC (Prior Informed Consent) is a mechanism based on the Rotterdam Convention that controls the international trade of certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides. Before exporting a chemical within its scope, an export notification must be submitted, and for some substances the explicit consent of the importing country must be obtained.
Which substances fall under PIC?
Banned or severely restricted industrial chemicals and pesticides, along with substances listed in the annexes of the Rotterdam Convention, are within scope. The scope lists are updated regularly; checking the current list before export is essential.
